SEEG mission on Mpox at Panzi Hospital in Bukavu
From 23 to 27 September, Thomas Pärisch, a researcher at the RKI, participated in the response to Mpox in the South Kivu province of the DRC.
🏥 SEEG and GIZ training at Panzi Hospital
A training session was organised by SEEG of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) at the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu. The main topics covered were:
👉 Infection prevention and control
👉 Clinical management
👉 Practical exercises on the use of personal protective equipment for Mpox
👨⚕️👩⚕️ Target Group
60 health workers from different health zones in the province of South Kivu participated in the training. The training focused on interactive learning methods and received very positive feedback.
📊 Background
Bukavu is currently at the centre of the ongoing Mpox outbreak, which was declared a public health emergency of international concern by WHO on 14 August. The outbreak affects more than a dozen countries in sub-Saharan Africa, with the highest number of cases reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
