- One dose of COVID-19 vaccine: 9.174.616

In June 2021, and in collaboration with the Rwanda Biomedical Center - RBC, we provided a series of online training sessions on the clinical management of COVID-19 patients. The content focused on infectious diseases and pneumology and was designed by the Department for Anaesthesiology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. We aimed to support healthcare workers responsible for the acute care of severe COVID-19 patients in assessing the situation and providing tools for the best possible care.

An average of 80 participants took part in the web seminars, in which presentations were alternated with case studies. At the end of each 90-minute session, there was a lively exchange between Rwandan clinicians about their latest treatment experiences and their colleagues at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, who shared what they have learned about the treatment of COVID-19 patients over the past few months.

Stringent measures including a lockdown were implemented in Rwanda. Since January 2022 the number of laboratory-confirmed cased decreased, while the cumulative fully vaccinated population reached 98.7% (Oct 25, 2022). Further discussions between the EFFO team and the RBC are planned to develop on-demand training sessions.
