The EFFO initially worked in Senegal and Burkina Faso, but several pilot activities had already been initiated in Rwanda back in 2018. These included simulation exercises in hospitals that were developed in August 2018 and February 2019. Furthermore, a refresher course for the first trainer cohort was made available in 2019.

July 2019: Pilot training for health care staff from private institutions

June 2019: "Refresher course" for trainers

February 2019: EFFO simulation exercise

November 2018: Second EFFO Trainer Cohort in Rwanda

This was against the backdrop of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the neighboring province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which occurred between August 2018 and June 2020.
