Project Partners

Our Roles

Our project partners contribute interdisciplinary experiences from the medical sector to construction and training.

The Robert Koch Institute supplies financial support and coordinates the implementation of the project, managing specifically assigned tasks and contracts, providing scientific and strategic advice and consulting on IPC and the COE design, and developing project related teaching and SOP materials. The RKI also prepares, in close collaboration with the RBC, a manuscript intended for publication, which specifically focuses on training methods of HCWs for the management of HCIDs and experiences gained from the establishment of a COE in an international context.

The Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) is our on-site partner that provides the program with specific expertise from the Rwandan healthcare system, thereby facilitating exchanges with governmental and non-governmental organizations, coordinating training activities, and ensuring coherence with the requirements of the Rwandan health service.

The Medmissio Institute for Global Health with it longstanding experience in training activities on topics of international health in French-speaking Africa, is our partner for (i) developing the design and teaching material of training courses for HCWs,  (ii) hosting of training contents on a web-based learning platform, (iii) the establishment of an international trainer network facilitating trainer exchanges, and (iv) the preparation of publications on training methods of HCWs in the clinical management of HCIDs and the experiences gained by establishing a COE in an international context.

The Institute of Construction Design, Industrial and Health Care Building of the Technische Universität Braunschweig (IKE-TUBS), is our architectural partner for the needs assessment, design and implementation of the COE construction.

The Institute of International Health and the Speciality Network: Infectious Diseases and Respiratory Medicine (Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin) provide clinical expertise on training contents and  concepts and also advises on construction design and layout. The focus hereby lies on (i) the clinical management of and the implementation of intensive care units for high-consequence infectious diseases and (ii) establishing medical treatment capacity under high-level isolation conditions. Furthermore, they are the lead in the Training Needs Assessment that took part in the first half of 2022 and implemented the related Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) survey. The Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany) is also our partner for exchanges and bilateral internships of German and Rwandan clinicians. In addition, to the above-mentioned project partners, EFFO project advisors from high-level institutions all over the world (e.g. WHO, The Alliance for International Medical Action - ALIMA, Médecins Sans Frontières - MSF) provide project feedback on a case-to-case basis.

The EFFO project assembles a network of experts, including medical specialists of diverse disciplines and institutions that provide feedback for further technical developments and adaptations to social or political changes.
